For these paintings which came to be my final MA work I chose to explore the relationship between the portrait painter and the sitter on a much more personal level. This came from the realisation that as well as the documenting of genuine moments in time, in the life of the subject there is value in the setup of the formal portrait, it is not a fictional part of their life. The formal protrait is a document of their experience and relationship with me, the time they gave and the compromise they were willing to make.
